2022 Malaysia GKS Alumni Meeting in Kuala Lumpur

 

 

Kuala Lumpur, 21 July 2022 – Korean Education Center in Malaysia(KECMY) had recently held 2022 Malaysia GKS Alumni. The meeting took place in Menara Hap Seng, on 21 July. 


GKS Scholarship

Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) is a scholarship program provided by the Ministry of Education to provide tuition fee and living expenses for international students to obtain domestic bachelor's or master's and doctorate degrees. Malaysia has a total of 347 students from the scholarship program since 1982, and the Malaysia GKS Alumni (MyGKS) with about 177 members, is taking the lead in promoting exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.


The Event

It began with a congratulatory speech by H.E Lee Chi-beom, Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Malaysia, after the opening speech from the Director of Korean Education Center in Malaysia,Ms Ahn Jooran. It had a total of 50 participants including GKS alumni and new scholars.


The meeting consisted of a commemorative ceremony for the first part and group activity between alumni and new GKS scholars for the second part. In the first part, there were an introduction of Malaysia GKS Alumni (MyGKS) , an awarding ceremony to MyGKS, 2022 GKS scholars and alumni mentor. In the second part, a GKS alumni , a Marketing Director from Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) and a Manager from Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) had given talks and experience sharing about various information about living in Korea and job support programs after graduation to help the new scholars adapt to the new environment. The meeting continued with the group activity called "I can survive in Korea". Both alumni and new scholars had divided into groups and were given 15 minutes to discuss the case study they'd picked and present after that.


The Director of Korean Education Center thanked all officials, alumni and scholars for attending and hope the GKS program will help scholars to realize their dreams.
