Opening of the Korean Education Center in KL

- 60th anniversary of Korea-Malaysia diplomatic relations 
Expect to expand the Korean language distribution in Malaysia and expand educational exchanges between the two countries. -

□ Opening of the 43rd Korean Education Center(Education Center) at Kuala Lumpur , capital of Malaysia.

 ○ Education Center was firstly established in Japan in 1963 for the purpose of overseas Korean education, and has expanded to Europe, the Americas and Southeast Asia with the increase of overseas Koreans. Currently there are 43 Education Centers in 19 countries.

 ○ The Education Center supports lifelong education for overseas Koreans, Korean language education for overseas Koreans and Malaysians, regular Korean language classes at overseas local schools, and international education exchange activities.

□ The opening ceremony of the Korean Education Center in Malaysia will be held online from 2 p.m. local time on August 19 (3 p.m. Korean time), with more than 40 people attending, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education of Republic of Korea, director general of the Malaysian Ministry of Education, Ambassador of Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Malaysia, Chairman of Korean Society on Malaysia, and Director of Korean Education Center in Malaysia.

 ○ The event was held in order starting with congratulatory speech from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education of Republic of Korea, Director General of Malaysian Ministry of Education, Ambassador of Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Malaysia, Chairman Tae-soo Lee from Korean Society in Malaysia and congratulatory performances.

 ○ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Eun-hae Yoo stated that, "I am very happy that the fourth Korean Education Center has been established in Malaysia in the New Southern region. We hope that the Education Center will play a pivotal role in exchange and cooperation in the field of education between the two countries and be a stepping stone for mutual growth.“

 ○ Director general, Datin Sri Hjh Nor Zamani Binti Abdol hamid from Ministry of Education in Malaysia said “Ever since the first Look East Policy was announced in the 1980’s, cooperation between two contries has grown from strength to strength.” and “I am hopeful that the establishment of the Centre would further enhance the collaboration with the Ministry of Education Malaysia beyond the language education but also diverse education field.”

 ○ "It is very meaningful that the Korean Education Center will be established to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries," said Ambassador Chi-beom Lee of Embassy of the Republic of Korea in a congratulatory speech.

 ○ Chairman Tae-soo Lee of Korean Society in Malaysia said that, “We hope the Education Center can play a pivotal role in promoting Korea in Malaysia. We will make efforts to lead the change by taking the lead in fostering global talent for the next 100 years of future education.”

□ Meanwhile, Director Jooran Ahn of the Korean Education Center in Malaysia said, "We will try to let overseas Koreans gain self-esteem through various educational activities, continue to operate Korean classes, develop Korean textbooks for Malaysia students, and foster Malaysian Korean language teachers."
